| Revision request: No driver’s license for Deaf in Japan |
The President of the Deaf Association of Kanto ( Japan), Dr Akio SUEMORI, asked EUD to revise the article that appeared in the January edition of EUD Update.
The article “No driver’s license for Deaf in Japan” stated that Deaf people are not allowed to obtain driver’s licenses in Japan.
Dr SUEMORI corrected this statement informing EUD that Deaf people in Japan can obtain a driver’s license after passing an aptitude test with a hearing aid. However, it remains a serious problem that some deaf fail in this test and therefore cannot obtain their driver’s license. Therefore the Japanese Federation of the Deaf (JFD) is demanding that the aptitude test would be abolished.
EUD wishes to apologise for this error in the January 2006 edition of EUD Update. |
