| World Association of Sign Language Interpreters – Worcester Declaration (2 November 2005) |
The participants at the first conference of the World Association of Sign Language Interpreters (WASLI) in Worcester, South Africa from 31 October to 2 November 2005 have agreed on the following resolutions:
- To formally ratify the name of the organisation to be the World Association of Sign Language Interpreters (WASLI)
- To adopt the governing document as agreed by conference participants
- To work towards the establishment of sign language interpreter associations in countries where there are currently none, and to encourage regional networks throughout the world
- To work in partnership with associations of Deaf people at local, national, regional and international levels
- To encourage the development of sign language interpreting as a profession throughout the world
- To support and work with developing countries to establish sign language interpreter education/training and provision of services
- To foster networks of sign language interpreters worldwide and provide a forum for the exchange of experiences at the next conference to be held in Spain 2007
